I’ve always felt more comfortable eating in taverns than in restaurants. Dalmatian taverns are decorated and made in a way that you feel warm and welcome. Interior and exterior decorated with lots of wood, marine details, the smell of homemade food, …
It is so in this tavern.
Where you would find it? On the main road along Dalmatian coast, between towns Split and Omiš, between smaller town Dugi Rat and village Duće, by the sea, above one of, to me, the most beautiful beaches.
It’s been several years since I was there. Yet it remained in a good memory, so I wanted to drop by and check if this would still be so.
Bracera tavern is really nice place at a nice location. Ideal to visit in any season. I remember some of my earlier visits during winter and it’s warm atmosphere. I remember also summers and outside, stepped terraces with magnificent view to beach and sea.
We arrived at lunchtime, it was weekend and top summer season. First, we were surprised by poor number of guests. World crisis seems to be the cause again
Lower terraces, by the sea, were almost full, but upper terraces and the tavern itself were not.
I ordered one of the specialties of the house, and also a Dalmatian cuisine, Stews with gnocchi aka “Pašticada sa njokima”. It is one of my favorite. FYI, it is a fillet of beef which is by itself lean and dry piece of meat, but made in this way becomes juicy and super tasty. The tavern does it good.
As you can see on photo, serving is abundant. Gnocchi and bread are homemade.
My husband ordered stuffed burger. He had not asked them to make it well done so it was pink inside. We both don’t like half-done meat so he did not enjoy much.
I noticed in media that some gourmet experts keep repeating that it would be a sin to do meat well-done. Like “it should leak juices”. I am not convinced. I prefer super fresh meat well-done. Anyway, if you like “barely touched” meat, just ignore me
I had chocolate cake for desert. It was fantastic. You should taste it definitely.
What else is on the menu? Everything.
The menu is fairly rich. Cold appetizers: prosciutto, cheese, octopus salad, meat and fish carpaccio, salted sardines …
Warm appetizers: various pastas, risottos, omelettes …
Fresh and frozen fish, squids, shrimps, lobsters, shellfish, meat dishes… And something you really should order and taste when in Dalmatia, baked dishes (food under a baking lid). Usually meat, octopus, or squids, yummy
However, you should know that if you want it, order it at least few hours earlier and it is made for at least four persons.
Prices are, I would say reasonable. For instance, house specialties are from 70-115 kn (9.5 to 16€). With good food a good drink should go along. Here you have a fairly good choice of Croatian, Slovenian and some other wines. Come and check it out.
If you would wish to swim after a good meal, promise me to be careful because it is not easy or wise to do having a full stomach
Until next time, eat well and regularly
