I wonder if there is anyone who does not like pizza. If you would find one by coincidence, the reason for his opinion would probably be a lack of open mind in tasting new things. As the matter of fact, you can make pizza in many different ways. Pick a few of your favorite groceries, put it all over dough and bake. Even if you don’t like cheese you can make an excellent pizza.
A few years ago it has been a great surprise to me to find out about origins of pizza. It’s history does not begin in Italy. In 6th century BC, Persian soldiers made first pizzas. There are even some theories about it’s Chinese and Korean roots. Seems to me it is just a proof of it being the simple and loved meal all around the globe.
I would bet that pizza is among three the most preferred dishes when you eat out. Honestly, it is the most delicious when you have it somewhere out of your kitchen. The best is from Pizzeria, baked in bread stove or fireplace. Yet, only a few of us own that kind of kitchen equipment.
This time we’ll take you to a reputable Pizzeria. It’s name, Pizzeria Ivo No.1. testifies about the owner being aware of how good it’s reputation is. We also concluded so because it had been almost full in the middle of work week and out of summer season.
These were our impressions on the very night:
We were a small company and sat at the corner of the first room. And we waited and waited.. No waiter to show up at all.
We had fun anyway so we did not miss him too much.
After some time it started to be annoying. Finally I got up and went to find the waiter.
By the way, he apologized in a charming Dalmatian way. “The corner you were sitting at, is a kind of, behind the wall for me to see, I should mount here a rear view mirror.”
The place is Pizzeria primarily, even so, they serve other dishes too. Meat, pastas, risottos. Since I had here only pizzas, I could not comment on the other dishes. My friend says that she had stuffed sirloin steak for many times and it was great as well as generous served.
This time she had mushrooms risotto, while the rest of us had pizzas. The risotto was delicious. I think you can see for yourself from the photo.
So, how were the No. 1 pizzas? A vegetarian pizza, with tomato sauce, cheese, artichokes, asparagus, corn and oregano. I would grade it “A -” (A minus). Too tasty. Excellent dough. Not too thick, not too thin. Baked in a traditional oven. Could it get any better? So, why A minus? Believe it or not, because of too much cheese. Many people would say that it could not be possible to have too much cheese on a pizza. I would agree about the fact that cheese is the most important ingredient, and I love to have much of it, but this time seemed a little too much.
Skampi pizza is always among my favorite 3 pizzas I often make or order. Pizza with cheese, tomato sauce, skampi (shrimps), onions, parsley and oregano. Fantastic pizza, but has a tiny flaw. A bit too salty. We were not sure why exactly, was it cheese too salty or dough, or perhaps the shrimps. I also grade it “A minus”.
If you would ever drop by to Stobreč nearby Split. Whether you would be a tourist or you live in the area, you should not avoid this Pizzeria. Perhaps you might have a hard time finding it but feel free to ask locals. Stobreč is a small place and you would manage in a few minutes.
Just a few lines more on prices. They offer small and large size pizzas. Do not worry about the small ones being too small maybe. I always order that size and I rarely manage to finish it all. The small ones cost 30 to 50 kunas (US$ 5.20 to 8.69 ), and large from 40 to 60 kunas (US$ 6.95 to 10.40). An average prices in this region.
Untill next time, eat well and regularily
