The Hotel’s 90th birthday was celebrated by the end of the last year. We participated too by having a lunch there on one sunny Saturday afternoon. A 90 years old guy showed itself in good shape and charming at the same time.
Hotel Park and it’s Restaurant Bruna have been established in 1921. at the same location. That is at town Split’s area called Bačvice.
Gorgeous building at gorgeous location. With sea view and park just beside it. It offers charm and boldness as well as 90 years long tradition in food preparation. Their tradition has been transferred by word of mouth.
When you have a sunny Saturday at the end of November I usually go out and seize the day. It is not only me that spirit level, but seems like entire town takes turns in walking and enjoying coffee along the seashore. I think that we, Dalmatians are most famous in doing that. It has been confirmed by foreigners visiting Dalmatia or Croatia. They always seem surprised by full cafes and our relaxed attitude, during all week.
The service in Restaurant was appropriate. Waiter came rather quickly and was very helpful about menu choice.
Our light Saturday lunch started by a glass of champagne and some tuna pate, compliments of the Restaurant. We were thankful.
We had asparagus cream soup and fish soup for appetizer. Fine and warm soups. Yummy …I always loved it. We liked both, however I must say that I have never tasted a fish soup as flavored as the one my mother makes.
After the soups, we had lasagne with meat and gilthead fillet made on barbecue with Swiss chard in Dalmatian way. Lasagne were delicious, but made the day before probably. Gilthead fish was also delicous, with cooked Swiss chard (that is Swiss chard made in Dalmatian way).
We finished our lunch with pomegranate Panna Cotta desert. Sweet bite for the end.
Speaking of prices, this restaurant fits to Croatian average. It’s strongest asset, in our humble opinion, are service and location. Food is good, solid menu, but it still does not make it stand out from average.
I wish for this restaurant, by their 100th birthday, to spice up their unquestionable tradition by adding some modern style. At least in dishes presentation. They should also invest some in new plates and cutlery, it is retro and worn out now.
Their menu sale for 90th anniversary, I think is still on. I suggest you accept their invitation and have some good Dalmatian food.
Until the new review, eat well, eat regularly
