This is definitely one of those restaurants that you often remember and come back to. Why is that? I’ll elaborate on that now.
What is the most important thing for you when reviewing a restaurant? Is it food? Here is delicious. Service? Nice and quick. Price? Just right. Interior design? One of the most unique you ever saw. Total experience? When could we drop by again?
This is another one of those restaurants I heard a lot before, and I waited a long time to come visit it. But since that first time, I came back several times. Special occasion or not, it was important to be there.
Looking at a few first photographs you can get a hint what it is all about. Advertised as a restaurant-gallery, it is exactly so. Staff and owner would gladly allow you to walk around, look and admire before you sit down. You can admire when you sit down and continue so after you eat. Because the place is full of interesting artifacts and vintage furniture waiting for you to ask questions about it.
While you wait for your order, you can chew non pealed peanut and drop shells on the floor. Yes, drop it on the floor. You couldn’t be more relaxed not even at your home
The space is completely packed with vintage furniture. There is also piano, ship bells, guitar, model airplanes, a ship hanging from the sealing and a bed available to use if you eat a bit too much. Old cash register, old telephone box still functioning, artist paintings, framed newspaper articles, significant collection of caps forgotten and left by guests from all over the world,…
Vintage light bulbs found in Germany just to match the rest of the things.
All of this on two floors of restaurant interior, in the very center of Vodice.
There is an outside terrace, also on two floors, so called “Rosen garden”. Main attraction of the restaurant and terrace is macaw parrot. They had a rooster which wandered up and down the place freely, unfortunately it is not alive for years.
Enough about interior and exterior. Anyway, many folks would agree that inventory is the best part of this experience but I would not. It is the food. Nothing strange from me, since I am a gourmet
Santa Maria offers Mexican and Italian cuisine specialties. Meat, fish, shellfish, pizzas, pasta, risotto, soups, salads… All made of fresh local ingredients, tasty spiced and eye catching served.
I am about to recommend you a few dishes because we have eaten here on several occasions. Although we do not doubt that the remaining dishes are less delicious. You should taste tortilla “Santa Maria”, paella, “Pancho Villa” steak, “Hasta la Vista” salad, “Tuna Rev” pizza. All delicious. Eye catching and tasty also. Why is it visually attractive, take a look at pictures. A picture speaks thousand words.
Unfortunately, since the main courses are huge, we would regularly skip appetizers so I can not tell you much about it except that the restaurant offers cheese, prosciutto, anchovies and carpaccio as cold appetizers, tomato, beans and mushroom soups. Among main courses there are also tacos, burritos, chili con carne, black risotto and black pasta. Several kinds of pizzas, grilled fish and shrimps, shellfish stew, squids, St. Jacob’s shellfish, tagliatelle with shrimps or shellfish. Various pancakes for desert.
I envy the one who could order and finish the whole row, in one visit, from appetizer to desert. A large quantity of food.
I almost forgot, they serve their own baked breads, pure “A” grade.
If you enjoy cheerful atmosphere, visit it during summer season, from mid June to mid September, when this little town is full of tourists. It looks deserted during the rest of the year, as well as most of restaurants on Dalmatian coast. That is a pity for Dalmatia, having so many sunny days and good climate.
Before you leave, you can participate in another interesting activity here and that is to attach your business card on the wall.
Until the new reviews, eat well and regularly.
